2009 Round the County Race

The 2009 running of Round the County was fun and eventful.  On Saturday we were the third start in a rain squall!  We had a superb downwind start at the committee boat with Braveheart.  Both of us blasted down to Pt. Lawrence at close to 20 knots before falling into a wind hole north of Orcas.  We managed to catch Braveheart at Turn Point and had an epic tacking duel with them, managing to slip ahead for the gun!

The second day we had perhaps our worst start of the season.  We ended up having to go around and join the line at the end.  We then made the tactical mistake of going out when we should have headed to the beach with everyone else.  After correcting the problem we ended up working through the fleet on the beach, passing everyone except Braveheart.  Due to depth issues we elected to head out to Salmon Bank and then reach across to Davidson Rock.  Nearly caught Braveheart, but blew our backstay the minute we started our downwind run - ended up finishing second to Braveheart and correcting to 4th - not great, but okay considering the fact that we blew 15 minutes jury rigging a new backstay...

Here is some video from the race...
